RUMOR: Could a new Palm smartphone be coming on Sept 12th?

PDA 247 is reporting that a new Palm smartphone will be announced on Sept 12. This is according to a tip they received and a link to a German website that tells of a contest to win the "new Palm smartphone". It has been widely rumored that Palm has Linux based smartphone in the works and that Palm has the Centro also coming. The Centro has already been announced and several pictures have been floating around the internet. The release date of the Centro has not been revealed though the time frame has been autumn. This rumored date could be the Centro's release day. I think it will be a while before we see the Linux based phone from Palm.

Apple iPhone software update coming soon!!!

AppleInsider is reporting that Apple will be releasing a software update for the iPhone soon. How soon is soon? We don't know, but I'm definitely looking forward to Apple's update. Where'd they get this information? Apple's Vice President of iPod Product Marketing, Greg Joswiak. We all expected a software update sometime and it's nice to know that one will be coming out soon. Hopefully that means next week along with the anticipated iMacs and rumored Nanos even a mockup seen here. We shall soon see!

"Speaking to analysts for RBC Capital Markets this week, Apple's Vice President of iPod Product Marketing, Greg Joswiak, said the first software update for his company's iPhone handset is due to arrive shortly.

"Management expressed excitement at plans to increase iPhone value over time via new software features, citing 'the sky is the limit' for iPhone software," analyst Mike Abramsky told clients in a research note Tuesday. "An iPhone update patch is expected shortly."

Abramsky speculated that upcoming iPhone software updates would include new widgets, peer-to-peer applications (chat, picture messaging, social networking), location-based services, MMS support, home networking, and possibly some integration with Mac OS X Leopard."

Rumor: Palm Foleo to be released August 22

It looks like Palm's mobile companion, the Foleo, could be released in late August. While many have not shared Palm's excitement of the device, Palm is looking for the device to be a hit with those who do not want to carry a heavy laptop around. A Foleo works with your Treo device, possible other smartphones down the road, and allows you to edit docs, spreadsheets etc. on the larger screen of the Foleo and using the Foleo's keyboard. It really sounds like a good idea as I've my self would hate to edit a document on my Lifedrive because the screen was so small. So, I do believe this device could be very useful for some, while others may prefer to carry a full-featured laptop.

Palm to release a device next week.

Hawkin's New Device Expected Next Week is a new article at Palminfocenter and this could put Palm back on the map, but likely for only a few weeks as the Apple iPhone will be out in late June.
Palm's Jeff Hawkin's should be revealing what his 3rd business is that he has talked about for the last couple years.
Honestly, I'm not that excited about this as I'm quite afraid that Palm will somehow botch this product. Palm seems to have lost their ability to innovate. However, if this device turns out to be a solid performer, it could steal some thunder away from the iPhone, especially if the iPhone turns out to be mediocre. It's definitely been Palm's best kept secret in recent years, so I will be awaiting the announcement to see just what has been up Palm's sleeve in the past couple years.

Most people believe it will be a UMPC-like device that runs a Palm-flavored Linux. It will have a large storage space and some form of wireless abilities (cellular, WiFi, etc.). This should be an interesting week.

"After years of hints, veiled references and rampant speculation, the fruits of Jeff Hawkin's secret project are expected to be revealed next week. Hawkin's is scheduled to present at the Wall Street Journal’s D: All Things Digital next Wednesday in Southern California.

Hawkins himself has hinted earlier this year that Palm fans "should keep a close watch on" what he reveals during the elite technology industry conference. Numerous theories abound as to exactly what we will see, but a number of recent hints from Palm executives and a look back at some of Hawkin's quotes provide some rough clues. In this article we take a look back at all the events leading up to the announcement and try to piece together a preview of what to expect."

Rumors: Details on upcoming Apple laptops

Mac Rumors has a good roundup of the rumors and speculation of upcoming Macbooks, MacBook Pro, and an ultra-portable MacBook which could possible have no optical drive. Interestingly, some of these rumors could become reality by next week according to Macrumors. Keep in mind that all this is speculation and is still rumors at this point.

"ThinkSecret updates with claims that both MacBook and MacBook Pro updates are coming sooner than expected.

The rumor site had previously pegged MacBook Pro updates for WWDC, but now expects an announcement "as early as Tuesday," echoing a previous page 2 rumor by Gizmodo. The new MacBook Pro is expected to utilize features from Intel's recently introduced Santa Rosa chipset.

Appleinsider concurs with this report with their own claim that the MacBook Pro will see features such as "faster front-side bus speeds of 800MHz, and second-generation Core 2 Duo mobile processors that scale up to 2.4GHz." They also believe the new MacBook Pro will house the new LED backlit displays. Appleinsider, however, gives no time frame for the revised Pro laptop..."

Apple's iPhone release possible release date

According to Engadget this morning, the Apple iPhone will be released on June 11. That is also the start of Apple's Wordwide Developers Conference. Releasing the iPhone on that day should be a great way to kick off the conference. I'm definitely putting this in my calendar as I'm seriously considering an iPhone as a replacement to my aging Lifedrive and Motorola v557. Keep in mind this date has not been officially confirmed, but it does make a lot of sense to me.

Brighthand reports Palm Acquisition May Be Announced in Two Days

It looks like all those Palm takeover rumors could be coming true and it might just happen in a couple days. Brighthand is reporting that Palm might be out by Nokia, Motorola, or quite possibly to a private equity firm. It seems to me that having a private equity firm would be the best choice for Palm users as Palm wouldn't go thru too many major changes. If Palm is bought by Nokia or Motorola, we could see some major changes to the company.
The one question that surrounds this for me is will the Palm platform survive such a buyout? I must admit that my time with the Palm platform could be coming to a close as other devices like the iPhone and Google phone will be hitting the market soon. Palm has yet to refresh the design of the Treo and revamp the aging Palm OS. I've waited long enough with this and I personally will not wait any longer. If Palm can do something by June in the form of an announcement or a new product release, I may stay with Palm, but if they don't I will move on to something else. Until then, we'll have to see how this rumor plays out. It should get fun now!

Google Phone is in the works, say insiders

Now that the iPhone has been announced, it seems folks are now waiting with baited breath for the Google Phone. It has been rumored for sometime now and apparently there are some "insiders" that have now confirmed this. However, Google has yet to confirm official this "insider" news and officially report on a Google Phone. What is exciting about this phone is that it is rumored to have a low cost to it.

"SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Google Inc. is developing its own mobile phone, according to industry insiders and analysts, while a Google official in Spain last week acknowledged the company is "investigating" such a project.

Google isn't commenting directly on leaks from Europe and the United States which describe a low-cost, Internet-connected phone with a color, wide-screen design. Newspaper and blog reports in recent months have Google shopping its phone design to potential mobile phone manufacturing partners in Asia.

"Mobile is an important area for Google," Google spokeswoman Erin Fors said on Friday. "We remain focused on creating applications and establishing and growing partnerships with industry leaders to develop innovative services for users worldwide. However, we have nothing further to announce."

RUMOR: Palm Treo WiMax device

Engadget has an interesting Palm rumor for us Palm fans. Apparently, Palm may release a WiMax Treo device this fall on the Sprint network. At this point the rumor is completely without solid evidence. Still, it would probably take a device like that to put Palm back on the map.

"Plant this firmly in the "unsubstantiated rumor" category and take it with a boulder-sized grain of salt, but there's one thing here we can say with certainty: whether it sells or not, Palm is in desperate need of fresh product. Like, not a new Treo with a little more memory or a slightly better camera -- we mean seriously fresh product..."

Receipt shows possible iPhone discounts.

This news is a bit old, but still worth a mention here at TGP. One cingular/AT&T customer who traded in his old cellphone for a Blackberry Pearl noticed an interesting tag on the receipt.
The picture was taken from his receipt and it mentions a savings on the iPhone of a $150. Now, this could mean that an 4 GB iPhone from cingular/AT&T costs $650 and if you sign up for a 2 year contract it will only cost you $500. Or it could mean that the iPhone will only cost you $350 after you sign a 2 year contract. I sure hope it is the latter as that will be easier on my wallet.

Honestly, an iPhone has me intrigued quite a bit. I'm looking to replace my Lifedrive as I've mentioned before and my first choice is an iPhone. Having wifi on the device will be a huge help to me. I use a PDA to help keep track of my appointments, access commentaries and books via eBible, send email, etc. with it and I think the iPhone will be a good replacement of my Lifedrive.

Could Palm be open for a buyout? Part II

Well, it looks like there is more to the Palm buyout rumor. Riding in to work this morning I heard on our local news radio station that Palm is working with Morgan Stanley on options. Is this an option for a buyout? I honestly don't know, but I do know that I have not heard any mentions of Palm on my local news radio station because of past rumors. This looks a lot more real. Now, nothing may happen, but this does make it interesting for us Palm users. Will our Palm devices be better or worse because of a buyout?

Could Palm be open for a buyout?

Palminfocenter is reporting that there are takeover rumors that have continued to inflate Palm's stock. This could just be a rumor that is meant to boost Palm's stock price, but I think it could be possible at some point. I hope Palm stays the way it is, but you just never know.

Coud this be the SlingLink Turbo?

Sling's upcoming SlingLink Turbo leaked? Engadget reports on the "next" SlingLink which apparently a eagle eye consumer caught on Amazon.com. It's still a rumor at this point, but a rumored release date is Feb. 27th.
If you are not familiar with SlingLink, it is a device that will allow you to watch your TV on your mobile device or laptop computer. So if you are away from home and watch to catch your local news, you can do that with Sling Media. I personally like the idea, but really don't see the reason to have this device as going on vacation or traveling, I usually don't watch much TV anyways. Nonetheless, it's a cool device and for those of you who would be interested in such a device you can check it out here.

iPhone's latest rumor, leaked information, or faked info?

Well, this sure does look interesting. Apple iPhone Review is reporting that the Apple iPhone might be discounted with a 2 year contract. The 4 GB model would sell for $300 and the 8 GB for $400 respectively. While this may sound too good to be true, it may just be. The picture that this information is based on looks fake. It looks like a very bad photoshopped job. However, according to Apple iPhone review the image has been pulled at the request of the Pinecone Research. Macrumors also had to pull the image from their site. Engadget Mobile still has the image up at the time of this posting.
Could this mean that the image is true? Possibly. It would be nice to have an iPhone for $300. Also mentioned is the rate plans of the iPhone. Of particular interest is the cost of the data plan at a mere $19.99 with 200 messages plus unlimited Internet and Visual Voicemail. Now if this is true, you'll find me lining up with other iPhone wannabes. My biggest hope is that the cost of the data plan is true. I'm not interested in paying $40+ a month for a data plan.
As this could be a rumor and a photoshopped job, please take this with a grain of salt. True or false, it would be known in the next few months I'm sure.
